- I just plugged
my NEW LCD screen in and the screen is
BLACK?
Your display settings exceed the capabilities
of the LCD monitor. You must reduce the
settings. Reconnect the original monitor
into the video card and reboot to Windows.
Reduce the refresh rate to 60hz and reduce
the resolution to 640x480 pixels. Reconnect
the LCD monitor back into the video card
and boot the computer. You should have
a picture at this time. Make your adjustments
once in Windows. Refer to your user's
manual for resolution settings. (Note:
be sure to turn off the computer each
time the monitors are disconnected from
and reconnected to the computer; make
sure to secure the video cable connection
using the thumb screws to secure the connectors
to the video card and the back of the
monitor.)
- I am getting an
OUT OF RANGE or NO SIGNAL INPUT message
on my display. What do I do to fix it?
Your display settings exceed the capabilities
of the LCD monitor. You must reduce the
settings. Reconnect the original monitor
into the video card and reboot to Windows.
Reduce the refresh rate to 60hz and reduce
the resolution to 640x480 pixels. Shut
down the computer properly. Reconnect
the LCD monitor back into the video card
and boot the computer. You should have
a picture at this time. Make your adjustments
once in Windows. Refer to your user's
manual for resolution settings. (Note:
be sure to turn off the computer each
time the monitors are disconnected from
and reconnected to the computer; make
sure to secure the video cable connection
using the thumb screws to secure the connectors
to the video card and the back of the
monitor.)
- Why does my picture
look choppy or washed out on my LCD monitor?
Increase your resolution to match the
natural resolution of the LCD screen.
This will provide a clearer picture. (See
your user's manual for recommended setting
for your model.)
Back
to top
- Why is my picture
ugly, it is not as sharp as my CRT monitor
what is wrong?
You are comparing apples and oranges.
The technology is different, you lose
a little picture quality with LCDs. CRTs
at this time are the clearest picture
of the two. Increase the resolution one
step at a time until the user likes the
picture. (The natural state is usually
clearest.)
- My new LCD has
double images what can I do to fix it?
Using a signal splitter, a video cable
longer than what originally was provided
by the manufacturer or a video cable extension
will cause this type of problem. Remove
those items and use the original video
cable. (Note: always use the signal cable
that is supplied with the LCD monitor
or display issues will arise.)
- I have Windows
XP, ME or 2000 where can I get the driver
for it?
Use the default plug and play the
Windows operating system installs. Not
all CTX models will have specific drivers
for these operating systems. Check the
CTX driver list for your model at www.ctxtec.com.

- There are horizontal
lines moving down my screen, what is wrong?
Use the PHASE adjustment in the OSD.
This should clear up the picture.
- I am not getting
any power to my LCD monitor. What do I
to do?
Disconnect and connect the cables
for the AC adapter or power cord. Make
sure they are connected securely. Test
by plugging the power cord directly into
the wall power outlet.
- What is the CTX
policy on non-performing dots on an LCD
screen?
CTX Technology Corporation is committed to
providing customer satisfaction by providing
quality products. Generally, CTX
products have very few bad or missing
(non-performing) dots.
CTX has set forth the following criteria
for non-performing dots for all CTX LCD
Panels. This policy exceeds the
industry standard.
CTX Technology's specifications allow
for non-performing dots. But, if there
is a group or cluster of some non-performing
dots less than the allowable number, CTX
will consider this depending on colors
that are missing and the distance between
the quantity of non-performing dots.
Also CTX will consider the location of
the non-performing dots within a specific
area. Non-performing dot can take
the form of either a light dot or and
dark dot. A dark dot will not have
any color at all it will be black.
A light dot will have some color depending
on the color of the background.
CTX has set a limit to the number of dot
anomalies. CTX has adopted this
policy for non-performing dots to supplement
the CTX limited warranty.
It is possible that any service replacement
display may also have some non-performing
dots. This should be considered
when requesting a warranty replacement
or exchange.
CTX allows for 5 non-performing dots for
15"-17" LCDs.
CTX allows for 7 non-performing dots for
19" or above.

General FAQs
- I am using Windows
95/98. How can I change my display settings..?
Click Start, then move the mouse cursor
to Settings, then click Control Panel,
then double-click Display, then click
the Settings tab. Adjusting the slider
bar generally tells you what you need
to know about your video system's capabilities
right away.
- My video card can
only allow me to display at a certain
resolution, which I want to exceed...
Not necessarily. Many video cards have
room for more memory chips. Sometimes
adding RAM to your video card can increase
the video card's display capabilities.
Consult the video card user manual for
the specific memory type you need, and
call the card vendor or manufacturer to
purchase the additional RAM. You may also
opt to purchase a whole new video card
altogether, which will allow your desired
resolution and provide faster performance.
- My monitor will
only allow me to display at a certain
resolution, which I want to exceed...
Monitors are not upgraded to allow
higher resolutions/refresh rates. It's
better to get a new monitor entirely if
you really need to run at a resolution
that exceeds your monitor's ability to
run it.
Back
to top
- What is meant by
"refresh rate"..?
"Refresh rate" refers to
the number of times a screen redraws itself
in a given time period.
- I keep hearing
terms like "video card", "display
card," "display adapter",
"video adapter", "graphics
adapter", and "graphics card".
What's the difference ...
Nothing. All these terms signify the
same basic thing.
- What is meant by
"video bandwidth"..?
"Video bandwidth" refers generally
to the highest input frequency the monitor
is constructed to handle. The greater
the video bandwidth, the greater (higher,
faster) the horizontal and vertical scanning
capabilities.

- What is the difference
between aperture grille pitch and dot
pitch ...
Cathode ray tubes (CRTs) such as the Sony
Trinitron and Mitsubishi Diamondtron use
a type of light filtering which relies
on a series of overlaying slotted aperture
grilles, rather than grilles with holes
in them. Currently, what is useful about
knowing whether a monitor has a .25mm
vs. a .28 mm dot pitch is that the .25
mm dot pitch generally indicates a higher
quality tube with sharper dot (pixel)
resolution.
- What is a pixel
...
A "pixel" is a tiny colored
dot on your display. The word "pixel"
is combination of the words "picture"
and "element" and refers to
the individual dots that, when grouped,
comprise a video display's picture. If
you look very closely at your monitor,
you can see its pixels.
- Why are flat screen
monitors preferable..?
Flat screen monitors are more valued for
their ability to reproduce more accurately
the printed page. They also tend to have
less glare, since flat surfaces displays
have fewer angles to pick up and reflect
glare. CTX Professional PureFlat Series
monitors are flat screen monitors.
Back

- Interlaced versus
non-interlaced. Which is better...
Simply put, non-interlaced monitors (or
rather, non-interlaced video modes) are
considered superior because they tend
to produce less flicker.
- Why do interlaced
monitors tend to produce more flicker...
The reason is non-interlaced monitors/video
modes use only one pass or "sweep"
of the electron gun, whereas interlaced
monitors/modes use two passes or "sweeps"
to display the same image. With interlaced
monitors/modes, one set of lines is made
on the first sweep then, a split second
later, a second sweep creates more lines
to fill in areas left open after the first
sweep. More accurate results can be had
when one sweep, rather than two sweeps,
produces the image. Non-interlaced monitors
are capable of interlacing, but the display
results are better with non-interlacing;
thus, there is no sense or desirability
to use interlaced modes on non-interlaced
monitors.
- What do I do
if one edge of the screen is lower than
the other end of the screen?
This is means that the magnetic field
from the earth or a magnetic source near
the monitor may interfere with the magnetic
field generated by the monitor so that
the image may appear slightly rotated
or tilted. Use the tilt function in the
OSD to make the adjustment.

- What is the advantage
of anti-glare monitor? What does ARAG
stand for ...
Anti-reflective, anti-glare monitors alleviate
eyestrain by eliminating shine. Like reading
a book in strong sunlight, it can be difficult
to look past the shine of reflected light
to the words or pictures beneath. ARAG,
an acronym for Anti-Reflective, Anti-Glare,
is a trademarked process by which image
quality is retained despite the fact that
actually less silica (than other methods)
is used to coat the screen to prevent
glare. The ARAG coating method is noted
for excellent image retention and clarity
of viewing.
- What is the difference
between tube geometry such as "spherical",
cylindrical" and "flat"..?
There are flat screens (which are truly
flat or nearly flat to all four corners);
spherical, which bow at all four corners
like a section of an inflated balloon,
and cylindrical, like a section of a soda
can which is rounded along the vertical
axis but flat along the horizontal axis.
- What is VESA ...
VESA, which stands for Video Electronics
Standard Association, is a group of manufacturers
who define standards for video displays
for the personal computer industry. One
famous standard which VESA proposed and
the computer display industry has adopted
is 75Hz vertical scan frequency 800 x600.
Back
to top
- What is VGA ...
VGA is short for Video Graphics Array,
and is an IBM-defined resolution of 640
x 480 with 16 colors.
- What is SVGA ...
The generally accepted definition of Super
VGA (SVGA) is 800 x 600 with a minimum
of 256 colors at that resolution.
- Why do my games
only run as high as 800x600 and 256 colors
...
Games usually involve heavy graphics that
may prove so resource intensive that the
play would be terribly slow if higher
color amounts were to be programmed in
for use.
Back
to top
- What does "resolution"
mean ...
While resolution can mean different things
depending on the context in which the
word is used, when referring to monitors
and video cards it is most commonly used
to refer to display format, e.g., 640
x 480, 800 x 600, 1024 x 768, etc. In
a more general sense, it refers to display
quality/clarity, which can hinge on dot
pitch, pixel convergence, pixel depth,
and other factors.
- Will there be
a problem with power standards overseas
...
CTX monitors automatically switch (called
"autoswitch") to compensate
for varying standards amongst different
countries in the world. There shouldn't
be a problem running any CTX monitor in
any country.
- Is there a problem
using my monitor in another country ...
While CTX monitors automatically switch
to accommodate all major power standards
for everyday use, it is always wise, especially
where intended use will be in developing
countries, to check on that country's
power quality (tourist guidebooks, travel
agents, and embassies can help) before
using the computer in that environment.
Plan ahead, and purchase adapter plugs,
line conditioners, and UPS's (un-interruptible
power supplies) as necessary. Your computer
cannot automatically to compensate for
the power quality and plug shapes you
will encounter where you are going. These
devices are sold in the US at computer
stores. Inflight travel magazines often
advertise accessories to adapt your system
unit and monitor to your destination's
power as well. Note: Phone line transmission
quality in third world countries can be
a problem for modem users.

- What does the
term "green monitor" refer to
...
The term "green" is used in
the environmentally friendly sense. Green
monitors have low power consumption. The
term has fallen into disuse; people now
talk in terms of various ratings and standards,
which indicate lower power consumption
levels than older monitors.
- What is the advantage
of having an MPR II monitor ...
The MPR II rating signifies compliance
with Swedish standards organization's
rating for low electromagnetic emissions.
MPR-II rated monitors are less likely
to cause health-related problems given
that there may be a link (it is still
controversial) between EM radiation and
a variety of human illnesses.
- What is the advantage
of having a TCO-rated monitor ...
The TCO rating signifies compliance with
the German standards organization's rating
for low electromagnetic emissions. While
the TCO rating does not supplant the MPR-II
rating (they are issued by different agencies),
TCO is considered a more stringent rating
than MPR-II.
- What do I use to
clean by screen on my CRT monitor?
The surface of the CRT is coated with
high-tech anti-reflection film to reduce
radiation. To protect your screen, please
do not use any coarse fabric, or any solvent
containing alcohol, benzene and alkali
to clean the surface of the CRT. If necessary,
please use only soft cloth like flannel
or velvet with mild detergent to clean
the screen.
